How we manage our assets and create value
At Celsia we are asset managers of the energy transition, our objective
is to maximize our shareholders’ returns by enriching our clients’ lives by contributing our own
capital and attracting that of other qualified investors from around the world. Our strategy
is based on understanding the characteristics of these assets in three stages:
assets to develop, assets to scale and assets to harvest.

We develop promising initiatives in the world of energy, with an expert team to explore, experiment and evaluate new avenues of growth for Celsia and its shareholders. This is the case of energy storage, the El Tesorito 2 thermal plant, the Guajira wind farms and the plant for the production of green urea.
▸ We put ON the first solar energy system in Colombia backed by batteries: Energy storage is emerging as a key asset in the consolidation of a more sustainable, resilient and innovative energy model. At Celsia Solar Palmira 2 we coupled the country’s first large solar energy storage system with Lithium, iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. It accumulates the surplus energy that the customer does not use during the day, so that it can be used at night or as a backup. This storage system has a capacity of 2 MWh, which allows us to deliver more than 600 MWh of energy to the customer, equivalent to the annual consumption of 330 homes. In addition to benefiting end users, this type of technology can be integrated into the National Interconnected System (SIN), optimizing the stability and reliability of the electricity supply. By increasing the self-consumption of clean and renewable energy, storage systems such as this one improve grid stability by acting as a backup in case of failures and contribute to stabilizing the frequency and voltage of the electrical system.
▸ Green fertilizers, a boost for the hydrogen economy in Colombia: Four years ago we identified the need to incorporate green hydrogen into our portfolio of services, which led us to investigate its viability in terms of products, human capabilities and available technologies. We discovered that there is potential for green fertilizers, since in Colombia there are only two plants of this type and there is a high dependence on raw materials such as urea, which is currently 100% imported.
With this in mind, we are exploring the production of green urea with a fertilizer plant that is in the design and development phase. By using green hydrogen for its production, CO2 generation is significantly reduced and at the same time captured, which contributes to a significant decrease in atmospheric emissions. In addition, reducing dependence on imports to produce green fertilizers contributes to the country’s food sovereignty.
▸ Tesorito 2 project: it is a 200 MW gas-fired thermal power plant that already has an environmental license and has the designs ready to be built together with El Tesorito, the thermal power plant that operates in Sahagún, Córdoba, from 2022. The project is waiting to be consolidated and its development can be made viable. At the same time, we are looking for gas availability alternatives to guarantee its supply, given the current difficulties in the country with this energy source.
▸ Wind farms in La Guajira: we are working to obtain the definitive viability of the Camelias and Acacias wind projects in La Guajira.
We scale businesses or operating models with high value creation potential, some with strategic partners. There we have early stage businesses such as enerBit, Celsia Internet and Peru, and other mature ones such as the C2Energía, Caoba and Energy Efficiency platforms.
▸ enerBit: our digital marketer, serves 11 departments in Colombia and is the only digital marketer in the country that specializes in households, a sector where it already has more than 18,000 customers. The potential of homes to be conquered is high because enerBit responds to the desire of consumers to make a more rational use of energy to save on their monthly payments and act with greater environmental awareness. This business has been in the market since 2022 to market electricity service digitally, through smart meters that, unlike traditional meters, allow customers to know their consumption hour by hour, detect faults, customize savings targets and receive alerts.
In 2024, enerBit integrated a new service into its platform that allows those who have a photovoltaic self-generation system to monitor their consumption and the surpluses that are delivered to the grid. This will also allow the installers of these projects to offer a digital ecosystem that facilitates their operation and provides their customers with reliable information.
▸ Celsia Internet, a scaling business that is growing at a good pace, This is one of the businesses we call “behind the meter” because, without being in the core of the energy service, it takes advantage of its infrastructure and market, in this case fiber optics. In 5 years this business has had annual growth rates of 215% on average and a quality service. Today we serve more than 110,000 customers in Valle del Cauca and Tolima. In 2024 we will reach 7 new municipalities: in Tolima, El Guamo, Carmen de Apicalá, Cajamarca and Purificación; and in Valle del Cauca, Andalucía, Bugalagrande and Toro. Thus, there are now 31 locations where we connect people with the opportunities of the online world. In addition to serving commercial and residential customers, we bring free internet, hand in hand with the Celsia Foundation, to educational centers so that their students can access new educational tools, take online tests and participate in activities with students and teachers from other countries.
▸ Peru, a free market with an appetite for renewable energy: In October 2023 we arrived in Peru with the Caravelí wind project, which will come into operation in 2026. The deepening and knowledge of the market opens a panorama for the creation of an investment fund, which we hope will become the main reference for 100% renewable electric energy for the free (non-regulated) market in this country. We are about to start the construction stage of the Caravelí wind project, and we acquired the Manta hydroelectric power plant, which has been in operation since 2020.
- Details of the Caravelí wind project:
- Location: Lomas District, Caravelí Province, Arequipa, capacity: 218.3 MW, estimated annual generation: 645 GWh.
- Details of Hidromanta hydroelectric power plant:
- In operation, location: Ancash, northwestern Peru. Manta river basin, capacity: 19.78 MW, estimated annual generation: 109 GWh.
▸ Platforms: For a medium-term growth horizon, hand in hand with strategic partners we are in the development of new structures that facilitate the creation of funds and investment vehicles with the objective of deploying own and third-party capital in various geographies. As asset managers, we manage both our own and third-party capital through investment platforms:
- Caoba: Transmission Assets. In alliance with Cubico Sustainable Investments.
- C2 Energía: solar farms larger than 8 MWp, in alliance with Cubico Sustainable Investment.
- El Tesorito: natural gas thermal plant in Sahagún, Córdoba. In partnership with Canacol and Proeléctrica.
- Laurel: solar farms smaller than 8 MWp, together with Bancolombia Capital.
- Energy efficiency: we help our clients achieve their efficiency and decarbonization goals through the reduction of energy consumption, self-generation with clean and sustainable sources, and electrical infrastructure sized and designed to support their needs.
Here we find the most developed businesses such as Celsia Colombia, which integrates: generation, transmission, distribution and marketing. This stage also includes the El Tesorito thermal platform and the Meriléctrica thermal plant.
▸ Generation: We operate assets to generate reliable, clean and environmentally friendly energy that contributes to the sustainable development of the countries where we operate. Likewise, we manage their life cycle; we comply with socio-environmental, quality and legal health and safety at work controls, and maintain the balance between costs, risks and opportunities, to guarantee the availability, reliability and safety required in the business plan of the organization and the national electric system.
▸ Transmission and Distribution: We have a transmission and distribution infrastructure that allows us to reach each of our customers. We operate with advanced technology to meet excellence indicators, satisfy our stakeholders and promote sustainability and profitability.
▸ Commercialization: We incorporate innovative solutions to improve well-being in homes, productivity in companies, and sustainability in cities, aligned with our goals of comprehensive commercial risk management.
